The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will join US President Joe Biden at a concert in Los Angeles which is aimed at raising global awareness of the importance of vaccination and vaccine availability, and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic will support the event via video link.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are the campaign chairs of this charity event, called Vax Live, which is designed to promote vaccination against COVID-19 globally, and which will also be attended by Joe and Jill Biden, AFP reported.

The concert, featuring performances by Jennifer Lopez, J Balvin, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters and HER, will be held at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday 2, May. The event will be pre-taped and broadcast on TV channels worldwide and YouTube on Saturday, 8 May.

The audience will include health professionals and other staff on the frontline of the battle against coronavirus, all vaccinated.

Apart from US President Biden and his wife Jill, also expected to address the event via video link are Croatian PM Andrej Plenković, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, the organiser of the concert, the Global Citizen nongovernmental organisation, said.

Its initiative is aimed at raising funds to finance vaccine purchase and calling on the G7 countries to distribute surplus doses to others.

Global Citizen also wants to encourage pharmaceutical companies to offer vaccines at more moderate prices.

The concert has been described as a call to world leaders to make sure vaccines are available to everyone.
