Over the past 24 hours Slovenia's health authorities confirmed 1,049 new coronavirus cases and four more Covid-19 deaths, the government said on Tuesday. Currently 617 Covid patients are in hospital care, including 146 in intensive units.

A recent survey conducted from December to March by the national health institute showed that two in three Slovenians believe vaccination against Covid would help stop the epidemic, with 58 percent saying they would “certainly” get vaccinated.

The majority of people polled said they support and comply with coronavirus restrictions currently in force. The least popular restriction was the night curfew, which ended this week after it had been in place for several months.

Of those who have not been vaccinated yet, 46 percent said they would do so “immediately” and more than two thirds listed freedom of movement and ability to travel for holidays as the main benefits of vaccination.

According to government data, nearly 123,000 Slovenians have received two shots of the vaccine by Tuesday, while additional 215,000 received only the first dose so far. Slovenia has a population of around two million.

As of Tuesday, Slovenia recorded coronavirus-related 4,130 deaths to date.
