A decision by the Slovenian government on the mandatory vaccination of public servants as of Friday has been put on hold after the Constitutional Court temporarily suspended it, and Administration Minister Bostjan Koritnik said on Thursday that he regretted the court's decision.

“I’m sorry that the Constitutional Court has made that decision but I respect the Constitutional Court and will absolutely respect its decision,” Koritnik told a press conference.

He warned however that the Constitutional Court did not quash the government’s decision, adding that he would not publicly comment on the topic until the Constitutional Court delivers a final decision.

Unions of public servants had asked the Constitutional Court to test the constitutionality of the government decision under which public servants have to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by 1 November, otherwise they could be dismissed.

Until the Constitutional Court delivers the final ruling public servants will still have to prove their health status with negative COVID tests.

In the past 24 hours Slovenia confirmed 1,028 new coronavirus cases, with one in five tests proving positive, and 5 fatalities. Slovenia is one of just two countries that have remained dark red on the latest European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) epidemiological map.
