Slovenia has registered 2,125 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours and 15 people died as a consequence, and the figures hint that the situation is improving, Slovenia's government reported amid media reports that vaccination for children aged between 5 and 11 would begin soon.

Today’s share of positive tests was 34.1%. Seven days ago there were 2,668 new cases with the test positivity rate of 37.1.

There are currently 33,527 active cases of the contagion in the country. In the past seven days, the daily average of new cases was 1,995 while the 14-day average per 100,000 population was 1,592, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

There are 1,087 hospitalized Covid patients, 280 of whom are in ICU. The country’s  vaccination rate is 54.6%.

Slovenian media outlets have reported that hospitals are hoping vaccination for children aged between 5 and 11 could begin next week already.

The children’s ward at Ljubljana Hospitals has confirmed that 80 children have been treated for Covid and that vaccinating that population would significantly reduce the risk of being infected.
