Slovenians can choose which COVID-19 vaccine they get as of Monday

Slovenians will be able to choose which COVID-19 vaccine they will receive as of Monday, Prime Minister Janez Jansa announced on Saturday.

“We have enough vaccines and it will be possible to choose the type of vaccine as of Monday,” Jansa said at an election convention of his Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS).

Today, nearly 700 SDS delegates are expected to adopt several resolutions and choose their leader.

The only candidate for the post is Jansa, who has been leading the party since 1993.

“The key goal for us is to achieve such a vaccination rate that will ensure immunity and normal living not just during the summer but in the autumn as well,” Jansa said, calling on Slovenians to get vaccinated.

Slovenia uses the mRNK vaccines manufactured by Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech and the vector vaccines manufactured by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

According to official data, 797,861 Slovenians have so far received one vaccine dose and 28.2 percent of the population have received both doses.

The country’s health authorities confirmed 84 new coronavirus cases and one related death In the last 24 hours.

There are 101 COVID patients in hospitals, and the 14-day infection incidence rate is 82 cases per 100,000 people.
