The Slovenian government's Covid-19 expert team has recommended inoculation primarily with the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, while those about to be inoculated with the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines should give their consent in writing, Slovenia's state television said on Friday.

A written consent would also be required before receiving the Moderna vaccine for persons under 18.

The recommendation is yet to be confirmed by the government, Slovenian media said.

It has been made after last month’s death of a 20-year-old woman two weeks after receiving the J&J vaccine. She died of a stroke, suspected to be a rare side effect of a vector vaccine, after which Slovenia suspended the use of J&J.

In the past 24 hours 838 new coronavirus cases and two deaths have been registered, the government said.

There are 413 hospitalized patients, including 115 in intensive care, said the health ministry.

Slovenia has vaccinated 49% of its population, the government said.

The 14-day incidence is 562 per 100,000 population. Slovenia is dark red on the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control Covid map.
