After the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expelled approximately 3,000 members, including four MPs, party chief Pedja Grbin said their membership was not renewed because of the way they conducted themselves at leading positions in the party and the 'mess they left behind.'

“Two SDP branches in Zagreb and in Slavonski Brod so far had approximately 5,000 members, but many were just members on paper. Now there are about 2,000 members left. Following the expiration of the 45-day deadline, membership expired for some members of the SDP caucus, such as Rajko Ostojic, Niksa Vukas, Zvane Brumnic, Marina Opacak-Bilic and former head of the Zagreb branch Gordan Maras,” read a press release issued by the Office of the SDP leader.

Grbin explained that the decision not to renew their membership was a political one, primarily made because of their work in leading positions in the party and the mess they left behind, the consequences of which are felt even today.

“The decision was made to put an end to party conflicts because of which the SDP is unable to commit to quality work and drawing up the necessary policies for the country and its people,” Grbin said.

He added that the SDP had many members in these two branches, notably in Zagreb, with a vision and quality ideas about how to help the party finally deal with issues that are important to Zagreb residents.
