The tourist season in Croatia has so far been very successful, said Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Thursday, adding that the data concerning overnight stays, arrivals, and revenues are better than expected.

Speaking at the beginning of the regular cabinet session, Plenkovic said he hoped the Croatian coast would remain in the orange zone on the new ECDC map, which is set to be published later today, and thanked Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac for all the effort invested in a successful tourist season.

“Fiscalised receipt numbers are great. July and August 2021 are for now better than the corresponding months in 2019, which tells us that the tourist season is very good. This is great for the economic recovery, the economy and tourism,”. Plenkovic said.

The measures introduced by the government and parliament helped achieve a sound balance between health and the functioning of the economy, transport, social life, education, but also tourists’ arrival in Croatia, he said.

On the previous ECDC map, published last Thursday, Croatia’ coast remained in the orange zone, while Zagreb went from green into orange. Other Mediterranean countries were for the most part designated red or dark red zones, indicating high risk of infection.

Croatia has registered 55.3 million tourist overnight stays so far this year, and hence year-to-date numbers exceed the total overnight stay statistics from 2020 by half a million.

Of those 55.3 million nights, 46.6 million overnight stays were generated by foreign holiday-makers and 8.7 million by Croatians.
