Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Thursday condemned the latest terrorist attacks in Kabul, stressing that finding those responsible was crucial for preventing terrorism in other countries.

“We condemn the terrorist attacks in Kabul in which numerous civilians and US soldiers were killed,” Plenkovic said in a Twitter post. “Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and US authorities, to whom we extend our condolences. Finding those responsible for the attacks is crucial for the security of people in Afghanistan and prevention of terrorism in other countries.”

At least 72 civilians were killed in two blasts caused by the Afghan branch of Islamic State near Kabul Airport, a health official and a Taliban official said on Friday, noting that the Taliban lost 28 people.

A Taliban spokesman later denied that any of their fighters guarding the airport perimeter had been killed and the U.S. army said that 13 of its members had been killed, according to Reuters.

US security forces remain on alert for more possible attacks as the Western allies are scrambling to evacuate as many of its nationals and Afghan staff as possible before the August 31 deadline expires.
