One woman was killed, and seven other people injured in a shooting that occurred on Tuesday evening in the Roma settlement of Parag in the northern Croatian Medjimurje region.
Three persons were arrested over suspicion they are connected to the incident, according to the Medjimurje County Police Department spokesperson Nenad Risek.
“The situation in Parag is stabile now, the police is monitoring the scene and there is no more danger,” Risek said, adding that a criminal investigation is ongoing.
10 year old girl among the wounded
Eight people were taken to the Cakovec County Hospital last night, including a 10 year old girl who was wounded in the shooting, said the hospital’s acting head Igor Segovic. Three of the eight people were released this morning.
“Unfortunately, one of the wounded, a 59 year old woman, succumbed to her injuries. Four people underwent surgery, three of whom are in serious condition,” Segovic said.
According to the police, an argument between multiple people resulted in one person opening fire around 9 pm on Tuesday.
“We received a call on a physical altercation between multiple people on Tuesday at 8.54 pm,” said Ivan Sokac, the Police Department head. “We could hear rapid fire. Riot police and antiterrorist units came out to assist on the scene.”
The police found the weapon on the scene and the investigation will continue.
“The arrested should be taken into custody later today,” Sokac said, adding they did not resist arrest and that two of them were already known to the police, and the third is a minor.
