Bosnian prosecutors have indicted nine former members of the Bosnian Serb army for the killing of more than 100 ethnic Bosniak civilians in eastern Herzegovina.

The former members of the so-called Nevesinje Brigade and its commanders are charged with having captured and killed at least 96 Bosniaks from Zijemlje, a community between Mostar and Nevesinje, in the summer of 1992.

Among the victims were several dozen women, elderly people and children. The youngest victim was a 15-day-old baby and the oldest child was two years old. Almost all members of seven Bosniaks families were killed.

The remains of 49 victims were found after the war and the remains of another 47 are still being searched for. The prosecution plans to call 88 people to the witness stand to testify about one of the gravest war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992-95 war.
