Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen-Korzinek said on Thursday that the Electronic Media Act would be amended by the summer and that it would probably be liberalised to enable publishers to develop while preserving media pluralism.

We are wrapping up consultations with the Electronic Media Council and other partners, publishers, and the amended law will definitely be adopted by the summer, the minister said.

Asked by reporters if a television broadcaster would be able to own the platform through which it would distribute its programmes and other providers’ content, the minister said that instruments would be introduced that exist in other countries where there was no such ban to secure media pluralism.

“We will put forward a bill that will make it possible for publishers and others on the market to develop but will at the same time make sure media pluralism is protected in line with the highest standards,” she said.

The mechanism to be integrated in the law will be made public when the bill is presented at a government session, she said.
