The low-cost airline WizzAir is expanding its business to Bosnia and Herzegovina by launching seven new routes from Sarajevo to European destinations, representatives of the airline confirmed on Thursday.

As of December, WizzAir will be connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital with new destinations in Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and at the same time increase the number of flights on six already established routes.

From the end of this year, WizzAir will thus offer flights from Sarajevo to 18 destinations in 10 European countries.

At Sarajevo airport, the carrier will establish a permanent base with two aircraft and also operate flights from Tuzla and Banja Luka.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital has not previously been attractive to low-cost carriers due to high prices for airport services burdened with special fees intended to support the domestic airline.

Two attempts to establish and maintain such an airline have failed because both Air Bosnia and BH Airlines went bankrupt, so the country mostly depended on services provided by foreign airlines with high ticket prices.

Faced with the travel crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Sarajevo Airport lowered the prices of its services and so attracted the attention of low-cost carriers.
