HDZ gets €252k in donations in first six months of 2021

In the first half of 2021, the three political parties who had received the largest donations are the ruling conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), with 1.9 million kuna (€252,000), late Zagreb mayor Milan Bandic's populist Labour and Solidarity Party with 1.7 million kuna (€226,000), and the center-left Social Democrats (SDP) with 1.1. million kuna (€146,000), the state election commission reported on Friday.

There were 250 separate donors who contributed to HDZ in the first six months of 2021, the commission said. In terms of the amounts, the Krizevci-based construction company Radnik was their single most generous donor with 150,000 kuna (€20,000). The Sibenik-based company Impol-TLM contributed 128,500 kuna (€17,000) and a company called Sirjan, specialised for farming cereals, provided 70,000 kuna (€9,300).

The top two donors of the Labour and Solidarity Party were the Ivanic Grad-based construction company RAUD and the Gornji Vugrovec-based Agrina PAD specialised in landscaping services. The top donors of the SDP party were Crodux Plin and the Crodix Derivati dva, each contributing 200,000 kuna (€26,000 – the legally allowed maximum for a single donation).

The Zagreb Is Ours local party in Zagreb received 70,000 kuna in donations, and its member Ursa Raukar-Gamulin, who has recently attracted the media limelight after her declaration of assets showed her to be one of the richest MPs, and her husband donated 5,000 kuna each.

The We Can party received 52,000 kuna in donations and one of the donors, Rajko Bajakic, donated 5,000 kuna three times, or 15,000 kuna in total. Bajakic has attracted the attention of the media recently after he had been appointed by the new Mayor of Zagreb and leader of We Can, Tomislav Tomasevic, as a member of the supervisory  board of the Zagrebacki Holding utility conglomerate.
