Government says it is ‘continuing to invest in army modernization’

The government is continuing to invest in the modernization of the Croatian Army and improvement of soldiers' status, and it is considering the technical aspects of the United States offer of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, it was said at a meeting on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and cabinet members had a working meeting with Defence Minister Mario Banozic and Armed Forces representatives on investment in the modernisation and equipping of the Croatian land forces, with emphasis on the US Bradleys M2A2 ODS offer.

The meeting underlined the government’s commitment to strengthening all branches of the military for the sake of a successful response to defence and security challenges as well as achieving the highest security on land, at sea and in the air, the government said in a press release.

Regarding the Bradleys offer, the Defence Ministry and the General Staff were requested to provide additional explanations on the offer as a good long-term investment for the land forces.

The prime minister said the government would choose the best solution, his office said, recalling that the government has increased the defence budget, improved the status of soldiers, and invested in equipment.
