The government on Thursday adopted a plan for the reconstruction of buildings in the City of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagreb County, Sisak-Moslavina County and Karlovac County damaged in the earthquakes of 22 March and 28 and 29 December 2020.

The plan is aligned with the Act amending the Reconstruction Act, and the Minister for Construction Darko Horvat said that it laid down the procedure for the reconstruction of the earthquake-affected areas.

The plan provides for the possibility of sending in forms via the e-Reconstruction application, reduces the red tape, simplifies the public procurement procedure and extends deadlines for submission of applications.

Historical landmarks damaged in the earthquakes will be restored based on a programme to be drawn up by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with local and regional government units.

The government undertakes to fully cover the cost of reconstruction of houses or apartments in which their owners or their relations live, Horvat said.

Central and local/regional government will ensure temporary accommodation for people left homeless in the disasters, and a programme of state aid will be adopted to repair and rebuild damaged properties.

The government also decided to finance rent for people temporarily living in rented accommodation after their property was damaged in the earthquakes and rendered uninhabitable.
