Croatia's legal order does not recognise neutral sex, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman said on Friday, commenting on media reports that the Foreign Ministry had asked the Interior Ministry to include the indeterminate gender XD on new IDs in Croatia.

Grlic-Radman said he and Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic agreed on the issue. “This is Croatia’s national legislation and we two ministers share the same view on the subject. I’m very surprised by all this fuss about nothing.”

Grlić Radman said the report, published in Vecernji List daily, came from the internal correspondence between state administration expert services, which he said expressed opinions or interpretations of certain processes and decrees.

“But a decision on that is not made by the expert services, it’s a political decision. My colleague Bozinovic and I have had the same view on that for a long time.”

Vecernji List reported that the Foreign Ministry’s position was that the IDs to be in use as of August 2 should have signs for female, male, and indeterminate sex.
