Croatia did not make it into the quarter-finals of the European Football Championship, after losing 5:3 to Spain in extra time in a thrilling match on Monday.

In a match full of drama and twists, Croatia took the lead in the 20th minute courtesy of an own goal from Gonzalez, after an incredible error by Spain’s goalkeeper.

Spain got back with three successive goals, by Sarabia (38′), Azpilicueta (57′), and Torres (76′), but, in an incredible finish of regular time, Croatia forced extra time with two late goals (Orsic, 85′ and Pasalic 90’+2).

However, Morata again gave Spain the 4:3 lead in 100th minute, which Oyarzabal increased to 5:3 three minutes later.

Croatia did not manage to orchestrate another miraculous comeback and it will be Spain who will advance to quarter-finals to face the winner of tonight’s game between France and Switzerland.
