The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that Croatia violated the rights to fair trial and the right to peaceful enjoyment of possessions of former shareholders of the commercial Croatia Banka.

The failures and omissions made by local courts in Croatia to reconsider the government’s decision on withdrawal and cancellation of shares amounted to these violations, according to a statement released by the office of the Croatian representative to the Strasbourg-based court.

The ECHR has ordered Croatia to pay the first applicant in this case  €3,750 non-pecuniary damage and €4,141 in respect of costs and expenses, and €3,000 non-pecuniary damage to the second applicant who is also entitled to €2,535 for costs and expenses.
