Consumer prices in Croatia in May 2021 were 2.1 percent up from 12 months ago, but only 0.1 percent up from April 2021, the state statistics bureau said on Wednesday.

In the period from January to May 2021, consumer prices were overall 1.1 percent up on average from the same period of 2020.

Year-on-year, the biggest generator of price growth were prices of transport, which accounts for 13.3 percent of the basket calculated by the statistics bureau – in May, they were up 11.4 percent year-on-year.

Analysts of Raiffeisenbank Austria cited by state agency Hina said they expected inflation to peak during the summer tourist season. After that, it is expected to slow down and remain “at a moderate level.”

The average growth of consumer prices is expected to stay around and above 2 percent for the remainder of the year, and the inflation rate for the entire year is expected to be at 1.8 percent.
