Croatia’s economy adds 13,700 jobs in May

At the end of May 2021, a total of 1.54 million people in Croatia were in employment, which is 0.9 percent up from April 2021 and 1.3 percent up from May 2020, while the unemployment rate decreased by 0.7 percentage points from April to 8.2 percent in May, the state statistics bureau said on Friday..

There were a total of 1,540,637 people in employment in May, which is 13,712 or 0.9 percent more than at the end of April whereas the increase on the year was 1.3 percent.

A total of 1,326,591 people were employed in legal entities, which is 5,984 or 0.5 percent more month-on-month and an increase of 0.8 percent year-on-year.

According to data provided by the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), a total of 138,030 job-seekers were registered with the HZZ at the end of May 2021, which is a decrease of 10,714 people or 7.2 percent from April 2021 and a decrease of 12.6 percent from May 2020.

The registered unemployment rate – the ratio of unemployed persons to the total active population – was 8.2 percent in May 2021, down by 0.7 percentage points from April.
