Retail sales in Croatia in June increased by more than 10 percent year-on-year, posting positive growth for the 5th month in a row, indicating that the economy is on the road to recovery after the pandemic-induced slump in 2020.

The state statistics bureau reported on Friday that although the volume of retail trade had dropped by 3.8 percent in real terms month-on-month, it grew by 10.9 percent compared to June 2020.

This is the fifth month in a row to record a year-on-year increase in retail trade, in the wake of a 11-month period of negative growth from March 2020 to January 2021.

By type of product, retail sales of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 10.2 percent year-on-year in June, while sales of non-food products increased 7.5 percent year-on-year.
