A slightly higher number of voters went to the polling stations by afternoon on Sunday than four years ago, despite the coronavirus pandemic and the consequences of the devastating earthquakes that struck Croatia last year.

By 4.30 pm , 35.54 percent of voters had cast their ballots in local elections, compared to 35.15 percent in 2017, the State Election Commission said, adding that of 3.66 million registered voters, 1.21 million exercised their right to vote.

Slightly over 2,300 coronavirus-positive and self-isolating people expressed their desire to vote.

A total of 15.47% of Croatians went to the polls by noon, which is almost the same turnout as in the 2017 local election, when 15.98% of voters had voted by noon, the State Election Commission said.
