Coronavirus: Every other test in Slovenia positive as hospitalisations rise

A total of 1,815 new COVID-19 cases and 12 fatalities have been registered in Slovenia in the past 24 hours, with the test positivity rate of as much as 53.1% and the number of hospitalisations exceeding 1,000 for the first time in the current wave of the epidemic.

Epidemiologists describe the situation in the country as very critical, while media outlets report that the number of new infections confirmed over the weekend has never been so high in relation to the number of tests.

A total of 3,415 tests were conducted and 1,815 new cases were identified, as against 1,300 seven days ago.

With the 12 new fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 4,953.

The seven-day average of new infections in a single day is 3,239 and the 14-day incidence has climbed to 2,031. There are more than 40,000 active cases in the country.

There are currently 1,008 hospitalised COVID-19 patients, of whom 226 are in intensive care units.
