Bosnia and Herzegovina has recorded 818 new coronavirus cases, while 73 Covid-19 patients died, the healthcare authorities confirmed on Monday.

The new results came from 3,169 lab tests performed on those who reported infection symptoms.

With the new spike in coronavirus cases across the country, Bosnia and Herzegovina now has 23,346 active Covid-19 patients.

The country’s regions have started introducing new restrictions, which mostly include the ban on work of bars, restaurants and other businesses where direct contact of people is unavoidable. Other measures include curfew hours in parts of Bosnia, mostly between 9 pm through 5 am.

While the new cases are spiking and authorities are trying to curb the virus spread with tightened measures, Bosnia and Herzegovina is expecting this week the delivery of 23,400 vaccines through the COVAX system to start mass immunisation of its population. The procedures to purchase the vaccines directly from producers have also been launched recently.

The total of 154,627 infections has been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the epidemic outbreak, with 125,343 of those who have recovered to date – 1,153 in the last 24 hours.

The country’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 5,938.
