"For the Homeland Ready", the salute used by the pro-Nazi Ustasha regime in Croatia in WWII is banned and the police will certainly act according to law, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic told reporters in the town of Knin on Thursday when asked to comment on footage showing several people using this salute during today's commemorative ceremonies.

The media carried footage of several people using the banned salute in Knin today, led by Marko Skejo, wartime commander of the 9th Battalion of the Croatian Defence Force (HOS), the armed wing of the far-right Croatian Party of Rights (HSP).

“I don’t know what happened exactly. This salute is banned and punishable, and the police will certainly act in line with the law,” Bozinovic told the press during the ceremony marking the 26th anniversary of Operation Storm.

The use of this salute in Knin has been reported by the police many times but these cases have not always been pursued by the judiciary, Bozinovic said, adding that the police will see the footage and act accordingly.
