Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic on Thursday said the investigation will determine whether Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic was the target of Monday's attack in St. Mark's Square, adding that one cannot rule out that the target was not just the police officer wounded in the attack.

Bozinovic made the statement on Nova TV, noting that the investigation was ongoing.

“The attacker wounded a security police officer, shot at Government House, and we cannot rule out the possibility that the target was something else,” Bozinovic said.

“At such time that the police will be in a position to share information with citizens the police will do so and the motive is also still being investigated,” he said.

Restaurant and bar owners to talk with minister

Bozinovic underscored that owners of hospitality establishments will talk with Labour Minister Josip Aladrovic about demands for compensation for the effects of epidemiological measures that have been imposed.

“No penalties will be issued for not adhering to measures and it is not waiters who will force guests to comply with them,” said Bozinovic and added that the institution of COVID stewards was introduced at the proposal of owners of hospitality establishments.

The intention is to raise awareness that restaurant and cafe bar owners should caution guests that they need to wear a mask when not eating and drinking, he said.

Bozinovic said that the fight against coronavirus cannot be won with the COVID-19 response team’s decisions or penalties, but with awareness that we can save someone’s life by acting responsibly.
