Montenegro's President Milo Djukanovic on Thursday informed that he would propose the leader of the pro-Serb "For the future of Montenegro" coalition, Zdravko Krivokapic as prime minister designate to form the new government.

Djukanovic previously held consultations with the leaders of three coalitions who entered the parliament following the August parliamentary election, Zdravko Krivokapic, Aleksa Becic and Dritan Abazovic.

“I have conducted consultations. I will put the proposal to the assembly. I recognise the agreement signed by representatives of the three coalitions. The election process and transition of power is confirmation of the successful policies in the preceding period. Developing institutions and the rule of law is the best path to overcome divisions,” Djukanovic told reporters.

He stressed that Montenegro is the only republic from the former Yugoslavia where there had not been any war and recalled that during the 30-year era of his Democratic Social Party being in power that country renewed its independence and became a member of NATO.

“Parties that have not been in power yet will be now. We must not allow that any government jeopardises Montenegro’s vital interests. The government until now made some quality moves. I hope that the new government will continue working on creating conditions to attract foreign investments,” said Djukanovic.

Addressing reporters Zdravko Krivokpaic said that he would propose a new government to the assembly on 8 November and that today marks yet another day in the victory of democracy.
