Austria has issued travel warnings for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro due to a rise in new coronavirus cases in those countries.

Austria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry also asked Austrians who might be staying in those countries at the moment to leave as soon as possible.

Minister Alexander Schallenberg said it was not an easy decision to make as many Austrian citizens have family members and friends whom they have not seen in months in those Western Balkan countries.

Unless those who return to Austria from those countries present a negative coronavirus test, which may not be older than four days, they will be placed in quarantine for 14 days.

Austria has lifted quarantine requirements for visitors from 20 European countries since mid-June, excluding Sweden, the UK, Spain and Portugal.

Austria has also issued travel warnings in place for the Gütersloh district in Germany and Italy’s Lombardy region.
