In January 2020 number of jobless Croatians nearly 12 pct down year-on-year

At the end of January 2020, there were close to 140,000 people registered with Croatia's employment bureau HZZ, up 6.2 percent from December, and down by 11.9 percent year-on-year, HZZ said in its latest report on Monday.

According to the HZZ, in January there were 139,924 jobless Croatians registered, an increase by 8,171 compared to December 2019, but still 18,910 down from January 2019. At the same time, HZZ listed 20,454 job vacancies on Monday.

By county, the largest number of the registered uneployed people lives in the southern Split-Dalmatia County (24,292, or 17.4 percent of total), while the lowest number of jobless people was in the least populous Lika-Senj County (1,947 or 1.4 of total).

In addition, 39,261 unemployed people received unemployment benefits in January, or 28.1 percent of all the jobless.
