Croatian and Slovenian police forces have busted an international drug ring, confiscating more than €600,000 worth of drugs and discovering drug production facilities in Slovenia, reporters were told in Ljubljana on Thursday.

Slovenian and Croatian police officials told reporters that their joint investigation into two criminal groups that produced and sold various types of drugs took more than two years, ending in arrests in Croatia and Slovenia.

The centre for the procurement, production and distribution of narcotics was in Slovenia and the drugs were sold in neighbouring countries, mostly Croatia.

Cocaine and heroin arrived from the Middle East and South America.

The joint police operation on Thursday resulted in the seizure of around five kilograms of cocaine, 10 kilograms of heroin, 30 kilograms of marijuana, and 25 kilograms of amphetamines and 6,300 ecstasy tablets, intended mostly for the Croatian market.

The Slovenian police arrested 45 members of the criminal ring, who are believed to have earned a total of €1.3 million from drug smuggling.

Six persons were arrested in Croatia and Croatian police are looking for another suspect, a Serbian national currently beyond their reach.

The investigation into the ring and its members continues.
