The bank account of the Djuro Djakovic metal and mechanical engineering group was unblocked on Friday, the Slavonski Brod-based group said in a press release via the Zagreb Stock Exchange (ZSE).

The accounts of the companies within the group were blocked on 30 October, and immediately the management started negotiations with the creditors on the removal of the blockade. On the same day the chairman of the management board, Marko Bogdanovic, resigned. Bogdanovic said in an explanation of his resignation that the group was in an unenviable situation because of two crucial issues: the inability to financially support the production of wagons for export and the inadequacy of the group’s own capital.

In the meantime, Economy Minister Darko Horvat has called for the overhaul of the group.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said his cabinet was seeking a solution that would make it possible for the group to do business in a viable manner in the long run.
