Croatia's state motorway company collects €165m in tolls during tourist season

From mid-June to mid-September 2019 more than 22.3 million vehicles used the motorways managed by the state company HAC and the Rijeka-Zagreb Motorway (ARZ). In total, some 1.22 billion kuna (€165 million) was collected in tolls without VAT, HAC said on Monday.

Compared with the same period in 2018, the number of vehicles increased by 3.8 percent and the amount of tolls collected rose by 3.1 percent.

Tolls charged between June 15 and September 15 are about 10 percent higher than in the rest of the year. For example, the toll charged for passenger cars travelling from Zagreb to Split was HRK 200, compared with HRK 181 as of September 15.

Looking at the period from the start of the year to September 15, the number of vehicles increased by 4.85 percent and the amount of tolls collected went up by 4.64 percent compared with the same period last year, HAC said.
