Rijeka Commercial Court on Wednesday once again adjourned a hearing that should have determined if conditions have been fulfilled to launch bankruptcy proceedings at the 3. Maj dock.

Judge Lijlana Ugrin explained that the state authorities are thoroughly considering the possibility of a positive outcome either through interim financing or through the continuation of the core business even in the event of bankruptcy.

The next hearing is scheduled for 4 July.

The judge urged the competent bodies to start working on the resolution of the problem and not to wait for the next hearing, and admitted that it was not easy to make decisions in this case. Although the preconditions for the opening of bankruptcy procedure have been fulfilled, the Rijeka industry and its workers are at stake, she added.

On Wednesday morning, the Rijeka dock’s overdue liabilities amounted to HRK 148.8 million plus two million kuna for employee wages.

Asked by the judge whether something could be done in the coming weeks to ensure the continuation of production at the dock, the shipyard’s director Edi Kucan answered that talks with the relevant ministries have resulted in a model that would ensure production could continue.

He said that a majority of workers at the dock said they were opposed to bankruptcy.
