July 2018 industry employment down 1.3 pct year-on-year

The number of people employed in industry in Croatia inched down 0.1 percent in July 2018 from June and by 1.3 percent compared to July 2017, the state statistics bureau said on Wednesday.

By sector, the month-on-month increase in employment was the largest in the production of drinks (0.8 percent) and the manufacturing of the other non-metallic mineral products, i.e. cement, ceramics, glass, and lime (0.7 percent). The largest drop, by 2.4 percent, was recorded in the manufacture of other transport equipment, i.e. the production of hand-propelled vehicles.

Year-on-year, the largest increases in employment were recorded in the manufacture of tobacco products (by 14.3 percent), the manufacture of basic metals (6.4 percent) and the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (6.0 percent). The largest decline, of 13.0 percent, was registered in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

Total labour productivity across all industry sectors increased by 1.4 percent over the first seven months of 2018 compared with the same period in 2017.
