A wildfire erupted on Saturday near the Croatian coastal town of Omis, racing from the village of Lokva Rogoznica to Mimice and destroying forests and endangering homes.

Some 160 firefighters and six firefighting aircrafts are engaged in the area in biggest deployment of the season. No injuries have been reported.

Winds have driven the fire to the Adriatic road and the traffic is being directed to the highway over Sestanovac.

The blaze has cut the powerline to the village of Mimice. High temperatures hitting 36 Celsius as well as winds are making it hard for the firefighters but they hope they will put the fire under control by the evening.
