According to healthcare accessibility and quality, Croatia ranks 30th in the world, the Lancet journal published this week.

The Lancet, world’s leading independent medical journal, published a healthcare access and quality assessment for 195 countries and territories.

The countries and regions were ranked according to the Healthcare Access and Quality Index (HAQ) for 2016, the highest grade being 100, and the lowest 0. The research included a spectrum of diseases which should not result in death where effective care is present.

The most successful country according to this criterion is Iceland, with the index of 97, followed by Norway (97), The Netherlands (96), Luxembourg (96), and Australia (96).

Croatia ranks 30th, with an index of 87, one spot below the United States. When it comes to countries in the region, Italy ranks 9th, Slovenia 21st, Hungary 40th, Montenegro 42nd, Serbia 50th, Bosnia and Herzegovina 62nd.

Somalia and South Africa occupy the bottom of the list, with the index of 19.
