Foreign affairs editor at N1 television, Ivana Dragicevic, presented her book Nejednaki ("Unequals") on Thursday. In the book, she writes about her experiences from spending more than 20 years covering global affairs as a television correspondent.

The book, published by Naklada Ljevak publishing house, was presented as part of the Zagreb Book Festival, in a public talk held at the Museum of Arts and Crafts (MUO).

Book’s editor, Kristijan Vujicic, said the book was a non-fiction gem which offers a personal account about an important period in time, penned by an experienced award-winning reporter.

“The book – as the author herself says in the introduction – is not an analysis from the point of view of political science, economy, or psychology. Rather, it’s a small piece of personal testimony about a period in time, a collection of stories which aim to emphasise the questions and issues we all face today as we experience global shifts and processes, described through events she had witnessed first-hand,” Vujicic said.

Dragicevic is a prominent foreign affairs journalist. She reported from many of the world’s hot spots, interviewed world leaders, and produced documentary films in locations from Africa, through the Middle East, to China. During her career at the public broadcaster HRT, she was producer of the popular foreign affairs programme Horizonti (“Horizons”) and author of the groundbreaking Anima Hotel Europa project in 2013 which saw her document her travel from Croatia – which had joined the EU only months earlier – to the small Sicilian island of Lampedusa, where thousands of African migrants sought shelter after navigating the Mediterranean to reach Europe.

An alumna of the Reuters Foundation, Dragicevic won three annual awards for best TV programmes by the Croatian Journalists’ Association, in 1999, 2001, and 2014.

Highlights of the book include her experiences interviewing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, organising a migrant Syrian rock band’s first concert in the EU, reporting from a G20 summit in France and a Chinese Communist Party congress in Beijing, and Donald Trump’s visit to Warsaw.
