Croatian President comments on Minister Dalic’s resignation

The Deputy Prime Minister, and Economy Minister, Martina Dalic, resigned today amid a scandal over a leaked e-mail correspondence between her and the consultants and lawyers who had worked on drafting the controversial Lex Agrokor bill in early 2017.

“The Deputy Prime Minister Martina Dalic’s resignation is a prudent and responsible political act,” the president said.

“No important political work, and that includes the reaching of the agreement on the restructuring of Agrokor, can depend on one person and be that person’s hostage. The only goal of that process is the stability of the company, saving jobs, and maintaining the overall economic stability. That is the strategic interest of the country. Up until now, the process was successful. The task of the authorities in charge is to determine all the relevant facts regarding the suspicions of a lack of transparency, and the potential law violations, without the public or political pressure,” she said.

“Independent of these activities, it is crucial to maintain the dynamic of reaching the agreement with the goal of saving jobs and the survival of the companies included (in the process). The Croatian President supports the government and the crisis manager (Fabris Perusko) in their efforts to successfully conclude the process,” the president said.
