Businesses to add 100,000 new jobs between April and June

More than 100,000 new job openings will be created in Croatia between April and June, HRT reported on Wednesday (March 14).

The estimate, made by local employment services, say around 50,000 or half of all new jobs would be created in tourism, with the rest in construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors. In tourism, the most sought after positions are for receptionists, service workers for restaurants, bars and kitchens, and maids.

But businesses will struggle to find qualified workers, with limited quotas allowing foreign workers only a stop-gap solution. In order to avoid a job market with both excessive unemployment and a lack of qualified workers for jobs that are available, Croatia should adopt a more radical approach, analysts polled by HRT said, either by investing more EU funds into training and education, or changing the country’s strict immigration policy.
