The Krsko nuclear power plant (NEK), co-owned by Slovenia and Croatia, has been reconnected to the power grid after a regular outage that lasted slightly over a month, the company announced on Wednesday morning.

During the outage, which began on 1 April, over 40,000 work activities were performed without delay and on schedule, despite the coronavirus epidemic. Fifty-six of 121 fuel elements were replaced, ensuring energy for the operation of the plant until the next outage, scheduled for the autumn of 2022.

The restrictions imposed to contain the epidemic made work processes challenging, and despite the daily presence of more than 1,500 workers and the scale of the work, “we managed to carry out all the planned work, ensuring a safe work environment,” NEK said.
