Irish low-cost airline Ryanair announced on Tuesday they would reopen their summer base in Croatia's coastal city of Zadar this year. Ryanair plans to connect Zadar to 37 European cities in an investment worth $200 million, Ryanair and Zadar Airport said in an online news conference.

Earlier in the day, Ryanair announced they would start operating 12 international flights from capital Zagreb.

Ryanair had previously operated at Zadar Airport during the peak tourist season for years, and their flights accounted for the largest single portion of the airport’s passenger turnover. Ryanair CEO, Eddie Wilson, said that two Ryanair planes would be based in Zadar, and the airline would operate 78 flights a week from Zadar to many European destinations. He said he hoped this would help local tourism recover, especially if Europe opened up for travel during the summer months.

He said the total investments in new flights from Zadar and Zagreb airports amounted to $400 million, and that customers in Croatia can already book summer flights from these two cities.
