Architects and urban planners on Monday called on the Construction and Physical Planning Ministry to act in line with the Physical Planning Act and stop further amendment of Zagreb's urban development plan.

Six associations of architects and town planners and the Zagreb Faculty of Architecture said in a statement that the deadline for corrections to proposals for amendment of the city plan was 90 days and that within that period no corrections had been submitted to the ministry.

They recalled that in a notification of July 8, the Construction and Physical Planning Ministry had refused to give its consent for changes to the city plan following a request by the City of Zagreb to approve a June 26 proposal for changes to the city plan.

Under Article 108 of the Physical Planning Act, if the Construction and Physical Planning Ministry refuses to give its consent, the Zagreb city authorities, as the sponsor of changes to the city plan - may make corrections to their final proposal within 90 days and ask for the ministry's approval again. The 90-day deadline for making corrections, which started running on July 8, expired on October 7.

The Construction and Physical Planning Ministry confirmed on October 23 that it still had not received the final draft with changes to the city plan following a new round of public consultation.

Considering this, the ministry must act in line with its legal obligations as stipulated by the Physical Planning Act and suspend further amendment of the city plan, the associations of architects and town planners said.
