Syria extradited Ibro Cufurovic, Bosnia national suspected of being involved in the organising of terrorist groups, illegal formation and joining the foreign paramilitary units, the State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Saturday.

Acting in line with the international obligations of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as its membership in the global coalition to counter terrorism, the Prosecutor’s Office said it conducted a series of activities which resulted in the transfer of Bosnian national back from the Syrian warzone.

The activities were carried out in cooperation with Border Police, State Investigation and Protection Agency, Security Ministry, Intelligence-Security Agency as well as the US Government and the US Embassy in Sarajevo.

Security Minister Dragan Mektic announced earlier this month that Ibro Cufurovic and Armin Curt, both Bosnian citizens, could be deported to Bosnia soon.

“Some technical problems emerged regarding this but I can tell not this is being finalised,” Mektic said and announced that the two persons would be back to Bosnia by the end of the month at the latest.

Cufurovic was a subject of an international warrant issued at the order of Bosnia’s State Court and will upon his return be processed in line with the law.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina expresses further readiness and dedication in implementing the law and international obligations to fight terrorism, thanking all law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina for cooperation especially the US Government and the US Embassy in Sarajevo for the support and assistance they provided in these activities, the state prosecution said.
