Bosnia's law enforcement agencies have launched an operation in major cities Tuesday morning against the persons involved in smuggling of migrants, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed.

The officers of Bosnia's Border Police have conducted raids at several locations in the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar within the operation codenamed “Centar” involving the persons suspected of smuggling the migrants originating mostly from India, Pakistan, and Iran.

According to the prosecutor's office, the migrants were transferred from Serbia and Montenegro through Bosnia and further towards European Union countries. Reportedly, the smugglers were charging up to 4,000 per person.

Some 50 cases of migrant smuggling have been recorded by now, and among the suspects were Bosnia's nationals as well as foreigners who presented themselves as migrants in order to easily establish contact with authentic migrants, said the prosecutor's office.
